I actually don’t get this project. It’s not like the original Watchmen took place exclusively in the present day. More than half of that book is flashbacks fleshing out all of the characters’ backgrounds and origins! Why would a prequel series to something like that ever be necessary?
Yeah, I hate to state the obvious when everyone else is anyway, but I don’t think anyone is under any illusions that this is anything but purely mercenary on DC’s part.
I’m sure the individual creators on the projects are excited to expand and put their own spin on these characters just as much as they would with Superman or Batman, but DC creating a spin-off of Watchmen was inevitable as long as it remained as popular as it has.
